OTTAWA — The local filing deadline passed Friday without any new filings. The only August primaries for Franklin County offices involve Republicans. The sheriff’s race is crowded. Sheriff Jeff Curry, who was appointed to the post, is being challenged by former police officers Rick Geist and Rick Croucher. No Democrat filed for sheriff. In the second district of the Franklin County Commission, Butch Riddle is challenging incumbent Ed Taylor. The winner will face Democrat Rick Howard. In the third district of the county commission, former commissioner Roy Dunn is challenging incumbent David Hood. There is no Democrat in that race. Janet Paddock is challenging County Clerk Shari Perry. No Democrat filed. Wellsville voters will have a special election regarding the city sales tax in August. The Wellsville City Council seeks to abolish two half-cent sales taxes but replace them with a one-cent sales tax for general public infrastructure improvements.
