OTTAWA — Five students from Ottawa High School received Kansas FFA State Farmer designations at last week’s FFA state convention. They are Brock Chartier, Sshelby Ferguson, Ty Lutz, Hunter Peoples and Kaylyn Rumford. To be a State Farmer, students must have been Chapter Farmers, an FFA member for at least two years, earned at least $2,000 or worked 600 hours in their Supervised Agricultural Experience program, given a six-minute speech about agriculture or FFA, participated in eight different leadership activities and received at least a “C” average. Paige McFarland of Ottawa also received a $1,000 FFA Ford Trucks-Built Ford Tough Scholarship program. Ottawa High School agricultural education instructor Blake Lasley received the honorary Kansas FFA State Farmer. Lasley, who is president of the Kansas Association of Agricultural Educators, was recognized at the Kansas FFA convention.
