WASHINGTON — The planet Venus will cross between the earth and the sun this evening. It’s called a transit and it will be the last one visible for 103 years. In Ottawa, Venus will be a black dot moving across the face of sun from the position of 12 o’clock on the sun and looping to 3 o’clock beginning this afternoon shortly after 4. In Ottawa, the sun will set before the transit is done. Experts warn you shouldn’t try to look at the transit except with special eclipse glasses. Instead, try a pin-hole camera. Put a pinhole or small opening in a piece of cardboard and hold it about three feet above or in front of a light-colored screen. You can see an image of the sun and Venus.
