HILLSDALE LAKE — The Hillsdale Area Water Cooperative and the Kansas Water Office will sign a water marketing contract which officials say will secure several counties’ and public water suppliers’ future water supply for decades to come. The signing of the contract will be Tuesday afternoon at the Johnson County Rural Water District No. 7 in Gardner. The multiple-year effort involves nine entities: the cities of Wellsville, Edgerton, Gardner, and Spring Hill; Miami County Rural Water Districts No. 1, 2 and 4; Franklin County Rural Water District No. 1, and Johnson County Rural Water District No. 7. Kansas Water Office director Tracy Streeter said the agreement will dedicate water resources to a high-growth area and allow the local entities to make decisions about water quantity adjustments as needed. The agreement will be a model for other regional water cooperatives, he said.
