WICHITA — The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has removed the water advisory for the Arkansas River between Wichita and the Oklahoma state line. The KDHE issued the health advisory two weeks ago after water quality tests discovered elevated levels of e-coli bacteria in the river. The city of Wichita discovered a leak in a valve at the city’s main wastewater treatment plant and that the leak allowed some partially-treated sewage to be released into the river, the KDHE said. The valve was successfully repaired and the leak was stopped. KDHE said it isn’t known how much tainted water leaked from the pump station.
