OTTAWA — The Franklin County Sheriff’s office and the Ottawa Police Department are asking for help in stopping a series of gasoline thefts from parked vehicles in both the city and rural Franklin County. Police Chief Dennis Butler said that since April, the police department has received at least 11 reports of gas theft. Sheriff Jeff Curry said that since April, his office has received six reports in which each case had multiple gas thefts of vehicles, mostly at businesses. They said that the gas thieves hit places where there are several vehicles parked in clusters, mostly parking lots or along neighborhood streets. They said if you’ve lost gas, you should call either the police or sheriff’s departments even if the theft didn’t involve much gas. If you see anything suspicious, they ask that you call 911.
