GARNETT — A coach for a girls 14 and under softball team in the Garnett recreation league was banned for a year after a disruption at a recent game. Garnett city manager Joyce Martin told the Anderson County Review such incidents are rare but the year-long ban was appropriate. She said the coach charged an umpire and yelled profanities that disrupted the game and upset spectators. The coach’s son also stepped into the dispute. There was a physical altercation when the city recreation director Brad Yeubanks intervened, she said. Police also intervened. Yeubanks decided not to file charges against the pair. Other parents will step in to coach the team for the rest of the season. Martin said several spectators called later to say they appreciated the low-key manner Yeubanks handled the situation.
