OTTAWA — Ottawa police report they wrote 96 tickets for seat belt or safety restraint violations during the recent Memorial Day “Click It or Ticket” campaign. Lt. Adam Weingartner said three of those tickets were written for child safety seat violations.
The Ottawa Police Department received a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation as part of a statewide traffic crackdown in the weeks before and after Memorial Day. Weingartner said Ottawa officers spent an extra 46 hours patrolling as part of the campaign. Officers also found one driver driving under the influence of alcohol and two people transporting open containers of alcohol. Officers also wrote 10 tickets for people driving while their licenses were suspended or didn’t have vehicle insurance.
