TOPEKA- Just in time for May’s labor report and Kansas’s stable 5.8 percent standing, the Sunflower State has been awarded a Silver Shovel for its economic development and job creation efforts. The award is given by Area Development, a publication that covers site selection and facility planning. A total of 18 states were recognized for their work in 2011. Kansas Commerce Secretary Pat George says the award is an honor and only further validates the state’s efforts. In 2011 the department helped facilitate 138 projects that created or retained over 11000 jobs.
