OTTAWA — The Ottawa City Commission decided to hold another public hearing on a new request by Ottawa University to build a parking lot just north of historic Tauy Jones hall. At the last public hearing, commissioners were reluctant to issue a permit to OU in the face of public opposition. OU officials met with commissioners Monday and presented a new plan. OU retooled the request to meet many of the public objections, including a smaller parking lot and more green space between the lot and Tauy Jones Hall. The city was required to hold the first public hearing because the Kansas Historic Society expressed concerns about building the parking lot near Tauy Jones Hall.
