OTTAWA — Franklin County commissioners plan to formally protest one of the recommendations regarding signs proposed by the Ottawa Planning Commission, who held a public hearing on the proposals last week. Although county commissioners said they agreed with most of the proposed changes to the city’s sign ordinance, a change banning attention-getting signs such as wind feathers and banners got their attention Monday afternoon. The county’s objections will go to the Ottawa City Commission, which has the final word. If the county objects, it would take at least four of the five city commissioners to approve the changes, county administrator Lisa Johnson said. Under an agreement with the county, the city handles most planning and zoning matters for the urban growth area just outside of the city.
