WINFIELD — Two convicted burglars drove away from the Winfield Correctional Facility Saturday afternoon. The Kansas Department of Corrections said Robert Cook, 52, and Frank Crutchfield, 48, left the facility in a 1984 Chevrolet one-ton box truck used to transport food from facility’s kitchen to the inmate dining room. Cook was convicted for burglary and theft in Harvey, Cowley and Butler counties, aggravated indecent solicitation in Pratt county and aggravated escape in Sedgwick County. Crutchfield was serving time for multiple burglaries and thefts in Sedgwick County and aggravated escape from Shawnee County. The truck, which had a blown-out tire, was abandoned near Rock, about 15 miles north of Winfield. Officials said a Douglass city pickup truck was stolen but it wasn’t known if that theft was connected with the escape.
