KANSAS CITY — A Missouri judge has postponed a trial in which Kansas City suburban school districts seek to keep students from transferring from troubled Kansas City schools. The trial has been postponed until Aug. 6. The Kansas City Star reported that although the trial date is close to the start of the school year, an attorney for the suburban districts said the postponement wouldn’t impact the issue. The attorney, Duane Martin, told the Star that the case will probably end up in the Missouri Supreme Court. Hundreds of students are expected to flee the Kansas City schools because the state of Mmissouri revoked the district’s accreditation. The Star reported both sides agree that state law allows students in an unaccredited district to transfer to other school districts. The suburban districts say they will accept Kansas City students as long as they are reimbursed for tuition and transportation costs. But they say the Kansas City district is refusing to pay what they want.
