GARNETT — Almost-perfect climate and weather conditions made for an almost-perfect wheat crop in Anderson County. But the Anderson County Review notes that wheat isn’t the county’s big crop, and if the warm and dry conditions that made wheat so early and so good continues for too long, the joy over the wheat harvest will be short-lived. Anderson County Extension agent Shannon Blocker told the Review she hopes county farmers won’t have to rely on wheat as this year’s money crop. Some long-term forecasts of little rain this summer could be bad news for the fall corn and soybean crops that are the mainstay for area grain farmers, she said.
