GARNETT — A new hearing has been set in Anderson County District Court for July 18 for a woman convicted of killing her niece in a drunk-driving accident near Colony. Anderson County Attorney Fred Campbell will use the hearing to demand full medical information about the condition of Connie McCormick. McCormick was sentenced to serve one year in jail for the death of Mary Jane Robertson, 13. However, McCormick’s lawyer Forrest Lowry said she has liver cancer, and that her own insurance would pay for her treatments if she was out of jail. However, he said if she stays in jail, Anderson County would have to pay for the expensive treatments. The county has already paid $7,000 in medical bills for McCormick. County officials are considering releasing her early to avoid paying more medical bills. Robertson’s sisters tells the Anderson County Review that McCormick is using health problems to escape the jail sentence. They said she used the same ploy in escaping penalties for killing a boyfriend in a drunk-driving accident 12 years ago.
