OSAWATOMIE — An 18-year-old woman reported she was sexually assaulted by a man representing himself as a police officer last week along U.S. 169 near 327th Street in Osawatomie. The Osawatomie Police Department said the man was reported to have been driving a white Crown Victoria Ford that had lights on the front dash and a siren when he stopped the woman. Police described the suspect as a white man, 5-feet 9-inches or shorter, in his early to mid 20s, with a mustache and goatee. He was wearing a black polo-type shirt with a law enforcement badge sewed on the chest and black pants. He also had a gun and a badge on his belt. Osawatomie police said it’s likely that the suspect isn’t a law enforcement officer. The police department requests that anyone who may have see anything in the area along U.S. 169 on Monday night, July 2, between the hours of 10 and 11 to call the department at (913) 755-2101. The department also said if you are stopped by a police officer, and you have any doubts about the officer, you should call 911 and have the dispatcher verify the officer’s actions. If you don’t have a cell phone, drive to the nearest police station or the Miami County Sheriff’s office.
