LAWRENCE — Two-time secretary of defense Donald Rumsfeld will speak at Kansas University’s Dole Institute of Politics 4 p.m. July 26. The Dole forum event is free and open to the public and includes a book sale and signing. A former Congressman, Rumsfeld served as defense secretary for presidents Gerald Ford and George W. Bush, and as director of the Office of Economic Opportunity for Pres. Richard Nixon. Rumsfeld’s tenure as Bush’s defense secretary was marked by controversy, coming during President Bush’s War on Terror in the wake of 9-11 and which grew into two full-scale and long-running wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
