OTTAWA — The Franklin County Development Council has narrowed down its list of candidates for economic development director to six. Acting council president Blaine Finch said a search committee will interview finalists this month and that the group hopes to have a new director on board in September. The director will help Franklin County compete against more urban, better-financed counties and cities, Finch said. The area boasts a good highway network and rail service, he said. The group, which is formerly Ottawa-Franklin County Economic Development, is trying to locate land to be used for industrial development and is working on improving the local work force by working with area schools and colleges, he said. “Our initiatives are going in those directions,” Finch said. The group is looking for a successor to Tom Weigand, who became the Junction City Chamber of Commerce president, tourism chief and economic development director.
