GARNETT — An Anderson County jury convicted a Garnett man last week of sexually abusing his 7-year-old son. The Anderson County Review reported that because the case falls under special provisions of “Jessica’s Law,” Michael Stevens will likely spend 25 years to life in prison for two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy and one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. The child’s mother testified she was raped by Stevens, and the child was a product of that rape. Last year, she decided her son needed to know his father and brought Sevens into the home. Stevens stayed at the home for a couple of weeks. After he left, the boy reported Stevens sexually abused him. Stevens had faced a jury trial earlier this year, but the jury could not reach a verdict because of technical problems with some of the evidence.
