TOPEKA — Topeka authorities are investigating the death Wednesday afternoon of a 3-year-old boy at a south Topeka home that’s also a day care. Detectives told the Topeka Capital-Journal that the child, who was identified as the mother who operated the day care, became entangled in the frame of a swing set in the backyard of the residence and suffocated. Ten children were present at the day care center when the incident occurred, but detectives are not sure whether any children witnessed the boy’s accident. The Kansas Department of Health and Environment issued an emergency order closing the day care, which is operated by Heather Blindt, Thursday.
