GARNETT — The Anderson County 911 system was down nearly 12 hours Sunday.
The Code Red system alerted Anderson County residents Sunday morning and told them to call the non-emergency numbers for Garnett police and the Anderson County Sheriff’s office. The Anderson County dispatch center said the 911 service was knocked out when a backhoe operator cut one of CenturyLink’s fiberoptic cables between Alma and Alta Vista in Wabaunsee County. The outage affected 911 systems and much of regular telephone service in Osage, Coffey and Wabaunsee counties. The Code Red system reported the Anderson County 911 system was back on line and functioning at 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
