LENEXA — A Gardner motorcyclist was taken to Overland Park Regional Hospital Sunday evening after he was thrown from his bike in Lenexa. The Kansas Highway Patrol said John Melnick, Jr., 45, was on the interchange ramp from north-bound I-35 to east-bound I-435 when he tried to stop because of heavy traffic. Melnick lost control of his 2010 Kawasaki and was thrown, trooper said. He was wearing a helmet. The highway patrol said his was one of a handful of serious motorcycle accidents Sunday.
In Douglas County, Cameronn Morrison, 25, of Sherman, Texas, was riding his 2002 Suzuki on U.S. 40 about 16 miles west of Lawrence when he plowed into the back of a Smart Car that had slowed for another vehicle. He was taken to Stormont Vail Medical Center in Topeka. The driver of the Smart Car wasn’t injured. In Shawnee County, a motorcylist and his passenger were injured. Daniel Blazic, 44, Hoyt; was riding on U.S. 24/U.S. 59 east of Topeka when he lost control his bike while he was trying to pass a semi-truck. He and Christina Reed, 35, Hoyt; were thrown into a ditch. Neither was wearing a helmet.
