TOPEKA — It was a memorable 911 call – both for the caller and the 911 center. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported an unknown man called the Shawnee County 911 dispatch center, saying he was hanging from a Union Pacific train heading east early Monday morning. The man told dispatchers he was sitting by the railroad track just east of Topeka, when a train came by and snagged his backpack. The man reported he couldn’t get loose from the backpack and he couldn’t jump off the train because of its speed. Dispatchers contacted the Union Pacific Railroad and asked that the train be stopped. The man then called 911 again and talked to the Jefferson County dispatchers that he had managed to get off the train but had no idea where he was. He also said he was uninjured. The man, who never identified himself, told them he would call his mother to pick him up. He was believed to be somewhere in Jefferson County at the time.
