OTTAWA — Workers were evacuated from the Schuff Steel plant because of a fire late Wednesday night. The fire was discovered by an employee on an exterior wall on the west side of the building, Ottawa Fire Captain Troy Gavel said. The fire traveled up the wall insulation and got into insulation in the ceiling, he said. Employees were evacuated from the building in accordance with the company’s emergency operations plan and no injuries occurred, he said. The fire burned itself out shortly after firefighters arrived and workers were allowed back into the building. The fire cause wasn’t determined. The fire damaged the building insulation and an exterior metal panel. The fire caused an estimated $15,000 in damage, Chief Jeff Carner said.
