TOPEKA — Shawnee County has scheduled a do-over in one primary election because a mix-up in which many voters received the wrong ballot at a polling place in last week’s primary election. Election commissioner Elizabeth Ensley Deiter said it appears that an election worker gave the wrong ballots to several people at the Light of the World Christian Center in southern Topeka, and which served as polling place for two different precincts. Canvassers couldn’t figure who voted for who, she said. The Topeka-Capital Journal reported the do-over was called because primary elections results for a Republican race for one Kansas House district is so close that it could have been affected by the mistake. The paper said that although some judges have ordered revotes before, it’s the first time a county board of canvassers has done so.
