GREELEY — A birthday candle has been blamed as the most likely cause of last week’s fire at the Greeley Café. The Anderson County Review reported investigators pinpointed the fire’s origin to a trash can. Owner Stephanie Katzer told the Review a birthday party had been in the café the night before the fire and a smoldering candle may have been thrown into the can with other trash. The fire has meant that the café has been closed for the first time for an extended length of time in its 140-year history. The café received some fire damage, as well as extensive smoke and water damage. Katzer was to meet with insurance adjustors and she was planning to reopen.
