OTTAWA — Eugene Field Elementary School is on the state’s list of 66 schools that will receive special attention. The test achievement gap between the school’s lowest 30 percent scoring students is among the largest compared with the state’s best-scoring students, Supt. Dean Katt said. The district will receive help from state and education experts to focus on improving students’ scores, he said. Many of the experts from the Kansas Learning Center have been working with USD 290 schools and it’s been a good process that’s been valuable for students, he said. Because the federal government exempted the state from ‘No Child Left Behind’ requirements, the state had to draft a special list of schools in need of improvement.
