LAWRENCE — A wild horse and burro adoption will be held by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management beginning 2 p.m. Thursday through Saturday morning at the Douglas County fairgrounds in Lawrence. More than 50 animals, including two saddle-trained mustangs trained by inmates at the Hutchinson Correction Facility, will be offered for adoption. Those seeking animals must be at least 18 and have no record of animal abuse, and have at least 400 square feet of corral space per animal, with free access to food, water and shelter. Animals must be loaded in covered stock-type trailers. The adoption fee is $125, with competitive bidding to follow. Cindy Branham, Topeka horse trainer, will conduct training demonstrations involving the horses and burros all weekend.
