OTTAWA — Things are cooking when it comes to checking out cake pans at Kansas libraries. The Associated Press reports that especially because of the falling economy, more people are checking out the cake pans as a way to observe those special occasions while saving money. Ottawa Library’s Rosemary Honn said the Ottawa Library doesn’t have cake pans but they get can any one of hundreds for you through Interlibrary Loan through the Northeast Kansas Library System. Many Ottawa patrons have received cake pans, Honn said. There doesn’t appear to be any particular trend as far as cake pans, but Honn said she’s seen lots of cars. The Coffey County Library System has 389 cake pans among its six branches. Libraries can also provide some free cake-decorating tips or suggest some books on the topic.
