GARNETT — A series of power outages in recent weeks has surprised Garnett utility officials as much as customers. Because of problems with KCP&L’s power grid, the city has had a series of power outages in the last two weeks, about twice a day. Although the city can generate its own electricity, it’s usually cheaper for the city to buy power from KCP&L. However, Garnett city manager Joyce Martin tells the Anderson County Review that KCP&L has told her they’ve had problems with a power line about 14 miles west of the Centerville substation. The Review reported it wasn’t able to get a comment from KCP&L. There was one exception that occurred Thursday when a gust of wind blew other utility lines onto a city power line, causing an arc and causing a power outage for the entire city for about an hour.
