OTTAWA – Eugene Field Elementary School will continue getting attention from the Ottawa school board. A team of administrators and teachers will meet with education experts in Kansas City, Kan., to begin working on plans to get the school off the state’s priority list of 66 schools needing improvements in standardized test scores, said Supt. Dean Katt. The meeting and subsequent strategy will be valuable for Eugene Field students and the district, Katt said. The board has given the OK to USD 290 maintenance director Richard Smith to solicit bids from contractors to deal with drainage problems at the school, Katt said. The district has been working on several fixes following complaints by teachers and parents of air-quality problems and mold.
