BALDWIN CITY – A steam locomotive will hammer its way down the tracks for the Midland Railroad 25th anniversary at this weekend’s Labor Day Railfest. This year’s Railfest will include a special appearance by the steam locomotive, on the track between Baldwin City and Ottawa for the first time in more than 60 years, which will pull trains three times a day, Midland’s Alan Kinsley said. Because of the weight of the steam locomotive, the steam trains will travel between Norwood and Baldwin City, rather than the full trip, he said. The tourist railroad will also feature the railroad’s Diesel-powered trains, including a mail express car, with two men who sorted mail in an express car, he said. The regular Diesel trains will go all the way to Ottawa.
