TOPEKA – Two resurfacing projects begin on U.S. 169 next week. Work on 11 miles in Miami County will begin Tuesday, between about one mile south of the K-7 junction and the Baptiste Drive interchange at Paola. Superior Bowen Asphalt Co., Kansas City, Mo., will patch the concrete pavement and then resurface the entire roadway an ultra-thin asphalt bonded overlay, KDOT said. The contract is $1.9 million. Traffic on the four-lane section of highway will be reduced to one lane in the north- and south-bound sections depending on the location of work. The speed limit will be 60 miles per hour.
On the two-lane section near K-7, traffic will be one-lane and will be directed through the work zone by flaggers and a pilot car. Expect delays of up to 15 minutes. Weather permitting, the project should be finished in November. In Anderson County, a project to mill and resurface a 13-mile section of the highway begins next Thursday between at the roundabout south of garnett and the Anderson-Franklin county line. The contractor, Venture Corporation of Great Gend, will mill five inches off the surface of the road and then apply a seven-inch asphalt overlay, KDOT said. Traffic in the work zone will be one lane and will be controlled by flaggers and a pilot car during daylight hours. Motorists should expect delays of up to 15 minutes or less. KDOT saidthe entire project should be finished by mid-November, weather permitting. The projects are funded under the T-Works transportation program.
