OTTAWA — Veda Driver Rogers will discuss her book about the Vassar Playhouse next Wednesday night, Sept. 12, at 7 at the Old Depot Museum. Rogers wrote the book, “Life’s About a Dream,” that chronicles the life and death of the Vassar Playhouse A native of Quenemo, she and her husband Bruce started and ran the Vassar Playhouse for 16 seasons beginning in 1970. Musicals were the mainstay of their summer seasons. They eventually added a string of railroad cars that provided elegant dining and a showboat called the “Whippoorwill” which served dinners and entertained guests on Pomona Lake. However, on June 17, 1978, 60 passengers and crew on the paddlewheeler boat were hit by a freak tornado that capsized the boat, killing 16. Rogers will have books for sale will sign them that evening. Refreshments will be served. The event is free and the public is invited.
