OTTAWA — The public will pick the design for a proposed mural in Haley Park in downtown Ottawa, and Ottawa business owners will get a seminar on how to prepare for and deal with disasters tonight. Ottawa Main Street’s Becci Shisler said the public will get to pick their favorite proposed mural done by the three finalists, Nell Stockdall, Matt Gifford and Scott Braden. They had to incorporate five specific items from Ottawa’s history into their proposed murals, she said. The Main Street board will review the winning mural and then will embark on a fund-raising effort to get the mural on the side of the building next to Haley Park, she said. Shisler said she hopes it’s the first of several murals in the community. Their submissions will on display from 5:30 to 7 tonight at the Ottawa Municipal Auditorium. Also at the auditorium at the same time, Main Street will hold a disaster preparedness seminar for business owners. Shisler said that many owners aren’t fully prepared for a variety of disasters, and the program may be of use.
