TOPEKA — Secretary of Kris Kobach hurriedly reconvened a meeting of the State Objections Board for this morning, following a weekend of nasty national publicity and ridicule.. The board, comprised of Kobach, Attorney General Derek Schmidt and Lt. Gov. Jeff Colyer; ignited the national firestorm Thursday afternoon after they signaled they would consider a Kansas birther’s contention that President Obama should be removed from the Kansas ballot. Joe Montgomery, Manhattan, announced Friday afternoon that he was withdrawing his objection to Obama’s citizenship. The board also dropped the matter quickly this morning. Schmidt and Colyer didn’t attend and sent stand-ins instead this morning. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported this morning’s meeting was disrupted by two birthers, including Orly Taitz, a national birther figure from California, who accused Kobach of treason for dropping the complaint, and who exchanged shouts with Kobach.. An Obama supporter joined the melee. Montgomery’s original filing had Kansas State University officials dodging numerous catcalls over the weekend after the national news Web site Huffington Post identified Montgomery as the communications director for K-State’s veterinary medicine school. Montgomery told the Huffington Post he had wanted to start a dialogue but said he “wasn’t successful in that objective, not in achieving a constructive dialogue.”
