POMONA – Two 14-year-olds were hospitalized after two separate accidents involving cows. A Quenemo teen was taken to Ransom Memorial Hospital in Ottawa Saturday morning after she crashed while trying to avoid a cow standing on K-68 just west of Pomona, the Kansas Highway Patrol said. Samantha Carey was driving an SUV east on K-68 when she saw the cow, troopers said. She swerved to avoid the cow, dropped into the south ditch and ran through a fence, coming to rest in a pasture. The highway patrol said she was wearing a seat belt. Jacoby Nash, 14, LaCygne, was taken to Allen County Hospital in Iola by an Anderson County ambulance after the mini-van he was riding in struck a cow late Thursday night east of Kincaid. The Kansas Highway Patrol said Jackie Nash, 42, LaCygne; was driving was driving east on K-31 about four miles east of Kincaid when she struck a black cow standing in the road. Jackie Nash, as well as two other passengers in the van, weren’t injured. Troopers said all of the people in the van were wearing seat belts.
