WASHINGTON — America’s leading food bank group Feeding America hopes consumers help fight hunger with every purchase. The group is launching a Fall Hunger Initiative together with Wal-Mart to help fill up the depleting inventories at food banks across the country. Feeding America’s Maura Daly said food prices are on the rise after this summer’s drought and recent Census data says that so are the number of poor. One in eight Americans now rely on Feeding Aamerica’s food to get by, she said. Food banks around the country are reporting lower than average stocks – and fear that this will be a tough winter for those seeking food aid, she told ABC News. Daly said that has to do with this summer’s record drought.
