OTTAWA — Shane Gimzo, Ottawa University utility back, received the NAIA’s national football offensive player of the week and KCAC offensive player of the week honors for his game against St. Mary Saturday. Gimzo, Perry, tied OU’s touchdown record with five rushing touchdowns as the Graves beat St. Mary, 50-42. Additionally, Gimzo’s 32 points also snapped the Braves’ single-game scoring record — 27 points set by Herb Sutton, a record that stood for 52 years. Gimzo rushed for a career-high 149 yards on 27 carries, while completing 9 of 13 passes for 76 yards. Because of Saturday’s performance, Gimzo leads the NAIA in scoring with 44 points, while ranking fifth nationally in rushing yards and rushing yards per game.
