TOPEKA — Former Franklin County Attorney Heather Jones was fined $500 by the Kansas Government Ethics Commission Wednesday. Jones, now a Johnson County deputy district attorney in charge of that county’s child abuse and sex crimes unit, was given the civil fine for using her district attorney’s office computer to send political e-mails in support of Franklin Ccounty Sheriff Jeff Curry’s primary campaign for the Republican nomination. The fine was issued during an ethics commission meeting Wednesday in Topeka. She told the commission she didn’t know that her e-mails wereviolation of the state’s campaign finance law. She said she intended to send the e-mail as a private Franklin County resident.
