TOPEKA- Franklin County’s August unemployment rate dropped 1.1 percent from July. The current rate of 7.5 percent translates to 998 people without jobs. The statewide rate is 6.2 percent and Kansas Labor Economist Tyler Tenbrink says the drop in numbers is due in part to a trend in people aged 55+ leaving the work force, opening up jobs for others.
“If this trend continues the job openings resulting from these workers leaving the labor force will help alleviate some of the surplus of unemployed workers,” Tenbrink said.
The statewide rate fell half a percent from July.
