TOPEKA — The Governor’s School Efficiency Task Force will hold its first meeting on Monday at the Statehouse. After opening remarks by chairman Ken Willard, the task force members will hear presentations from school finance guru Dale Ddennis, Kansas Association of School Boards lobbyist Mark Tallman and David Trabert, of the conservative think tank Kansas Policy Institute. Gov. Sam Brownback announced the formation of the task force last week to examine education spending and to develop what he calls guidelines on how to get more funding into classrooms. His proposal has been controversial. Critics say the task force doesn’t have anyone experienced in school administration or finance, and they’ve also challenged his claim that few school district spend at least 65 percent of state aid for classroom instruction.
