OSAWATOMIE — An 32-year-old Osawatomie man died Thursday morning after being tasered by a law officer earlier in the morning. Osawatomie police and Miami County deputies were called to the 1100 block of Chestnut Avenue for a standoff following a domestic disturbance report. When officers arrived at the scene, they found an injured woman who had run from a home. Police told Kansas City television stations that Travis Maupin barricaded himself in the home, but came out and tried to strangle the woman. Police said Maupin then fled on foot from the scene, and officers chased him for about one block. An officer tasered Maupin, and he was taken into custody. Maupin later died at the Miami County Medical Center in Paola where he had collapsed after he arrived at the jail. Following standard procedures, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation of the man’s death.
