GYPSUM — A state trooper was involved in a shootout in Saline County Tuesday night following a pursuit, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported. The driver took off, prompting the chase along Saline County roads. When the vehicle crashed east of Gypsum, gunfire was exchanged between a suspect and the trooper, the highway patrol said. The suspect fled on foot. The Salina Journal reported three people were injured in the shootout. The Topeka Capital-Journal reported that the trooper was one of the people who were injured; and was injured by flying glass. The suspect wasn’t injured. Troopers and local law agencies searched the area for the suspect. The two-and-a-half hour search included aircraft and dogs. The highway patrol said a suspect was captured without further incident. Neither the suspect nor the trooper were identified. Because the shootout involved a law officer, the Kansas Bureau of Iinvestigation will investigate.
