TOPEKA — The Kanza Rail-Trail Conservancy will use two recent grants to extend parts of its trails in Osage and Franklin counties. The conservancy received a $25,000 grant from the Kansas Health Foundation to extend a section of the Flint Hills Nature Trail from Quenemo to Pomona. The funds were matched by another Wichita foundation. Most of the funds will be used for crushed limestone on the trail. Kanza also landed an $18,000 grant from the Lattner Foundation to build a section of the Landon Trail south from Overbrook for three miles. Overbrook trail superintendent Karl Umscheid said he hopes that grant will spur efforts to push the Landon Trail to Pomona Lake. Kanza has received more than $750,000 over a 10-year period. The conservancy has completed 50 miles of the Flint Hills Trail.
