GARNETT — Long-time Garnett Democrat legislator Bill Feuerborn has been unseated. Buoyed by a large margin in Franklin County, Republican conservative Kevin Jones of Wellsville received enough votes to win in Tuesday’s election, although Feuerborn won in other counties in the 5th House District. That race wasn’t the only one in which Anderson County incumbents were up-ended. Former deputy Vern Valentine knocked off Sheriff Jeff Hupp. Osage County Attorney Brandon Jones defeated incumbent Fred Campbell, a Libertarian, in a three-way race. Democrat Kathleen Neff came in third in that race. Incumbent County Commissioner Gene Highberger of Westphalia survived a challenge from Republican David Leitch, a retired doctor. Retired teacher and Democrat Jerry Howarter won an open Anderson County commission seat over former commissioner Bill Craig.
