OTTAWA — Ottawa firefighters went to Ottawa Municipal Airport Tuesday night after a helicopter ambulance carrying a patient made an emergency landing. Firefighters didn’t find any fires or other abnormal conditions when they checked over the Eagle Med helicopter, Assistant Fire Chief Richard Oglesby said. The flight crew told firefighters that they made an emergency landing after they saw a hydraulic warning light, Oglesby said. They said the patient was in stable condition and requested an ambulance. Although a Franklin County EMS ambulance came to the airport, because other ambulances were deployed, the ambulance couldn’t leave the county. When another ambulance returned to the county, the patient was loaded into the ambulance and taken to KU Medical Center. Oglesby said the helicopter company dispatched a mechanic to the airport.
