GARNETT — A key question Anderson County Hospital officials hope to answer is what a new hospital will mean to the people of Anderson County. The Anderson County Review reports hospital and county officials plan to ask voters in the spring to approve an approximately $26 million bond issue for a new hospital. Designers are reviewing the present hospital, which was built in 1949, and working on a proposal for a new facility. Analysts are also looking at how much a new facility will cost and the cost of maintaining services at the current facility. Hospital officials tell the Review that the present hospital doesn’t have enough space and has serious shortcomings in its mechanical systems. They say maintaining the present hospital would cost another $15 million over the next 10 years, but some items can’t be renovated or replaced because of building codes. Information will be presented to the public later.
