GARNETT — Seven people have applied to fill the vacancy on the Garnett City Commission. Mayor Greg Gwin and City Commissioner Preston Peine are expected to discuss the applications for the open city commission seat at tonight’s city meeting at 6 at city hall. The seat became vacant Dec. 1 after City Commissioner Dan Morgan moved to Texas. About 16 months remain in his term. City manager Joyce Martin told the Anderson County Review that the applicants’ names will be formally presented to commissioners at tonight’s meeting. The applicants include three women and four men, she said. Gwin and Peine will review the applications and schedule interviews. The commissioners will pick the winning candidate. If there’s a tie, city attorney Terry Solander will cast the deciding vote.
