GARNETT — About 30 local youth will have an opportunity to test a new after-school program in Garnett starting next month. The sign-up for the program at the Garnett Recreation Center is under way. The program, which will meet four days a week after school from 3:30 to 5:30, is open to children from kindergarten to sixth grade. There has been a need for an after-school program because of the number students who don’t have parents at home immediately after school, Garnett Elementary School counselor Amy Wettstein told the Anderson County Review. The program will include homework help, games, crafts, cooking and snacks. The cost is $35 per month each participant for the program, which will go from January to April.
